Psalm 118 The Lord is Good V

  1. THE LETTER OF ATHANASIUS,
    OUR HOLY FATHER,
    ARCHBISHOP OF ALEXANDRIA,
    TO MARCELLINUS
ON THE INTERPRETATION OF THE PSALMS

Athanasius[1] “SON, all the books of Scripture, both Old Testament and New, are inspired by God and useful for instruction, as it is written; but to those who really study it the Psalter yields especial treasure.”

“You see, then, that all the subjects mentioned in the historical books are mentioned also in one

Psalm or another; but when we come to the matters of which the Prophets speak we find that

these occur in almost all. Of the coming of the Savior and how, although He is God, He yet

should dwell among us, Psalm 49 says, God shall come openly, even our God, and He shall not

keep silence; and in Psalm 118 we read, Blessed is he that cometh in the Name of the Lord! We

have blessed you from the House of the Lord. God is the Lord, and He has given us light.”

When you have occasion to testify concerning God, 9, 71 , 75 , 92 , 105 to 108 , 111, 118, 126 , 136, and 138 all fit the case;”

VIII. Practical Application

Journaling, reminding ourselves His mercy endures forever, does not fade out fade away,

need for our remembering

participation with other believers. Not only a Me & Jesus experience. Individualism tends to forget familiar aspect to be a believer. Sad in a way, constantly going against one another, theological debates, preferences.

We need to be known by our love. Our beautiful aspect, family of Heaven, welcoming all into being a son or daughter of God.

It is edifying, harder to stand on a point of disagreement of opinion. Giving thanks of God working in ones life, simple and easy to celebrate. It is uplifting to here these stories.

God does not fail to love us, we fail to notice and recognize it a lot of time. Jesus redeemed us through the Cross!

Surrounded by life at times, Lord helped me.

Ex/ I recently had this experience with a loved one who had an unexpected death. We started the path to healing with calling on the Lord for help.

Renew Spirit of remembrance, love ongoing, free to cry out, admit our own brokenness to Him. Ends with gratitude again.

  1. Exhortation Knowing the Lord’s kindness, leads to trust, which fully develops in love

Psalm 116 1I love the LORD, because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
2Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

Psalm 118 A Song of Victory 1 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures for ever! 2 Let Israel say, ‘His steadfast love endures for ever.’ …

19 Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord. 20 This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it. 21 I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. 22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. 24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save us, we beseech you, O Lord! O Lord, we beseech you, give us success! 26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. 27 The Lord is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar. 28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you. 29 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever.

The first sentence

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!

Practical application make a list thank God for, endless, willing Holy Spirit gift to breathe, see, have a dog, have a family. Prioritize gratitude a lot to celebrate even if world screams and laments troubles. Exhausting, gives no energy. Feeds fear contra to faith.
