The good bishops are hamstrung by the current pope. What can be done? “Some people mocked the idea of developing of a new “code of conduct” for the U.S. bishops. For instance, one comment stated, “Code of conduct is your piety and vow of celibacy. You are called to be chaste just like the rest of us.” https://www.churchmilitant.com/news/article/backlash-to-usccbs-plans-to-address-sex-abuse-scandal

Yes, good questions: who are the wolves, who is the Vatican Nazis? Are these the same that forced Viganò into hiding, fearing for his life? B16 you should have done a Braveheart, die at your post, go down with the Titanic. A comatose Pope is better than a heretical Pope.

“Observing the comparison, Bild asks, “Who did Benedict feel threatened by?”

Recalling Benedict XVI’s ominous words at his inaugural Mass: “Pray for me that I may not flee for fear of the wolves,” the German newspaper asks: “Who are the wolves?”

As both a student & admirer of BXVI, it is with sadness I noted the same thing as this reporter. Where is your concern for ME or my FAMILY?

“With these words, Pope Benedict acknowledges some sorrow about the Church’s current state. That had been exactly one of the comments made by the unnamed German cardinal, who has previously said that the Church entered a major crisis because of the Pope’s resignation. In this cardinal’s eyes, a resignation by a Pope was unprecedented in Church history and has seriously damaged the Church.

However, in his letter, Pope Benedict seems more vexed that the cardinal criticized him for his resignation. He wrote: “If you know a better way and therefore think that you can judge the one [actually] chosen by me, please tell me.” The letter is signed “Benedict XVI.”

“For those who are watching the meltdown of liberal American Catholicism, the drama has a new episode every day. Just when you thought it couldn’t get more frightening and bizarre…
It does, and Chicago seems to be one of the flash points. You thought two Chicago priests caught having oral sex in Florida in broad daylight was bad? Then you learn about the famous Cardinal Bernardin and the seamy death of Fr. Montalbano and the dark side of Casa Jesus and you see just how deep the gay mafia runs in Chicago.”

If those men had cared more about the truth in 2002 than about protecting the image of the Church by covering up for a wicked cardinal, perhaps the McCarrick boil would have been lanced, and Church wouldn’t be facing such a grave crisis today. There is a lesson here for everyone, not just Catholics, and not just Christians. “Live not by lies,” said Solzhenitsyn.”https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/Posted on August 29, 2018, 12:03 AM Rod Dreher
